Practical Cookery

At the Senior Phase this course is aimed at pupils who have a keen interest in food preparation and cookery processes.

The course will cover the following units:

·       Understanding and using ingredients

·       Organisational skills

·       Cookery skills, techniques and processes

Approximately 50% of class time will be spent on developing

food preparation skills. Throughout the course, learners will produce a variety of savoury and sweet dishes. The complexity of these will progress as we work through the course.

The remainder of the time will be used to study topics such as kitchen safety and hygiene, recipe costing and development, healthy eating and sustainability.

Learners will be encouraged to work in groups and independently throughout the course.

To gain the final course award, pupils will complete a practical activity and accompanying assignment. There is also a question paper within the main exam diet.
