Parent/Carer Frequently Asked Questions

Physical presence in school | We have no confirmation yet as to how this will take place. This will be a West Lothian Council decision and will be based on Scottish Government advice. Arrangements for welcoming the new S1 into the building will be confirmed nearer the time. |
Virtual Transition | This will start to take place in the coming weeks. Ms Richmond (DHT Support and S1 Year Head) will hold a virtual meeting with all the P7 primary classes individually to answer any questions about coming to the Academy. The students will also be able to see a Tour of the School Video alongside videos from staff in different departments. There will also be online activities for P7 Pupils to complete. |
School day structure | 7 period day - Mon- Thurs - 8.35am - 3.30pm 4 period day - Friday - 8.35am - 12.20pm Break - 11.15am - 11.30am Lunch - 1.10pm - 1.50pm (students can go home or to the local shops at break and for lunch) |
Classes | Classes are being finalised and we are liaising with the primaries over the composition of the classes. Pupils will find out before end of term which class they are in, however, we are unable to send out full class lists due to data protection.
At the moment the Academy are following online timetable blocks due to COVID, therefore no individual timetable will be available at this time. |
Uniform | BA uniform is a white or black shirt and school tie with a black jumper/cardigan. Black jeans/trousers or skirt (no leggings) and plain black shoes/trainers. Pupils should bring a school bag with them every day and should bring PE kit on the days that they have this class. |

Appointments/Holidays | Please provide a note to the school office concerning any appointments or holidays |
IPay impact | We are awaiting confirmation as to how the new system will work re COVID 19 as students would normally be issued a new code to use on the machines in school. |
Ties | Some will be provided by the primaries however, you can purchase them from the school office at lunchtimes or via logo express - https://www.logoxpres-schoolwear.co.uk/ |
Lockers | We have a limited number of lockers that can be rented and used by pupils. Deposit returned when key is handed back and if locker is empty and in good condition. |
Bus Passes | Bus passes will be posted out to families prior to August. |
Buddies | When the S1 pupils start attending the building they will have senior buddies to take and collect them from classes and support them during break and lunch. The pupils will get an Induction/Tour of the school during their first few days in the building. Some pupils will be provided with a map of the school to support them alongside their buddy. |
Bullying | BA has an up to date Anti- Bullying Policy with procedures followed and recorded. Staff are trained in restorative practices and all bullying allegations are investigate by the Guidance Team. The anti bullying policy can be found on the school website and school app. |
Additional Support in classes | Pupil Support Workers will attend some of the S1 classes in the first few weeks to help settle the students. Mr Shade PTC ASN will coordinate support for any young person with ASN. |
Medical Needs | Medical Room and trained staff to deal with all students with a medical conditions through support and monitoring. |
Breakfast Club | We have a breakfast club from 8am or the school Dining Hall is also open for students to use. |
Extra-Curricular Activities | There is an extra -curricular timetable created each session for students. This will be explained to S1 in registration class. The opportunities range from sport, science, games, arts and debating. |
Anxiety | This is totally understandable given the situation and will do our best to support all the students with this difficult transition in an individualised approach. |
P7 Leaver events | Each primary will organise their own P7 leaver event. |
