Design and Manufacture
Design and Manufacture
The N5 Design and Manufacture course comprises two areas of study
Design
Pupils study the design process from brief to presenting a design proposal. This allows them to develop the skills to generate, develop, test, and communicate their own design proposals. They will adopt a design/make/ test approach and appreciate the importance of evaluating and resolving design proposals on an ongoing basis. They will also develop an understanding of the factors that influence the design of products.
Manufacture
Pupils study the manufacture of prototypes and products. This allows them develop practical skills required to design and manufacture products. They will develop a sound knowledge of materials, craft skills and techniques which they will use to manufacture their own designs.
Pupils will also investigate the commercial manufacture of everyday products and how this impact the environment.
Currently we offer National 5 and Higher Design and Manufacture.
